It’s awesome when…

…people take my artwork, change it, and post it as their own.

Check it out here, and here. Also Katie Daisy’s work here.

What do I do in this situation?

This situation is especially annoying as this person who stole is not necessarily making any money, but the nature of Tumblr is that it will get reblogged thousands of times so that eventually the original illustration might not even be remembered. This is my main problem with Tumblr and a reason I really don’t like it a lot of the time - you can tag your own posts as much as you want and link back to your own site but anyone can take that off or just swipe your image from your website and post it all around with no credit whatsoever, so that it could be seen my thousands of people, none of them knowing the work was done by a real person who could be getting credit. This happens to me all the time.

The only real solution I can find to this problem is to put a watermark on any image you publish on the internet, but even that can be taken off if you don’t put it over the entire image. UGH.

  10. katiecturner answered: Let them know you know they are stealing your work. Report to tumblr. Sending an invoice is a good, as it will scare them into taking down.
  11. simplyjulianaloo answered: use photoshop and watermark it.
  12. seanscheidt answered: you send her an invoice for posting them…saying that its not applicable if she takes them down or sites you
  13. whatihavefoundtoday answered: Let them know, report them if they don’t change. Start adding a tag to your work on tumblr. See gingerhaze.tumblr for an example
  14. littleheat answered: Unacceptable for sure. Firstly, I would ask them to remove it. Legally you can’t do much unless they’re profiting. I’m sorry, this sucks!
  15. ediblepaint answered: Oh god I know what you can do. Shit. I forget what it’s called but there’s this foundation you can join that protects artists..want the info?
